The commission said the hotels were suspected to be hideouts for persons engaged in alleged same-sex acts and other acts it described as immoral and contrary to Sharia.
The Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Hisbah Commission, Umar Haruna Tsafe, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Gusau.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Chairman of the commission, Sheikh Umar Hassan Gusau.
The Commissioner of Operations of the commission, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Dauda F.A.S., said the suspects were arrested at Lumana Hotel, Dtravelers Hotel and Meravela Hotel, all located within Gusau metropolis.
The statement listed the names of the women arrested as Suwaiba Muhammad from Gusau, Zainab Muhammad from Sokoto, Habiba Adam from Jigawa, Fiddausi Bello from Gusau, Safiyya Isah from Gusau, Zainab Maliki from Kaura, Maryam Rabiu from Damba, Amina Sanusi from Gusau, Zulaihat Abubakar from Gusau, Fadimatu Abdullahi from Gusau, Zainab Muhammad from Gusau and Najaatu Lawali from Gusau.
The men arrested were identified as Abdullahi Bello from Gusau, Aliyu Idris from Gusau, Bilyaminu Isah from Gusau, Dahiru Surajo from Gusau and Sani Muhammad from Mafara.
According to the statement, one of the arrested women, Fiddausi Bello, expressed remorse over her alleged actions and appealed to the commission for leniency.
Speaking after the operation, the Chairman of the Hisbah Commission, Sheikh Umar Hassan Gusau, called on those arrested to fear Allah and desist from acts which the commission described as immoral and against the teachings of Islam.
He said the commission will continue to carry out such operations across the state as part of its mandate to enforce Sharia and promote moral discipline, especially in the state capital where reports of immoral activities in hotels have been on the increase.
The chairman also directed that all those arrested should be handed over to the Sharia Court for further legal action in accordance with Islamic law.
He urged hotel owners in the state to ensure that their facilities are not used for immoral activities, warning that any hotel found to be harbouring such acts would be sanctioned.
Sheikh Gusau also called on parents and guardians to monitor the movements of their wards and to instill moral values in them to prevent them from engaging in acts capable of tarnishing the image of the state.
The Hisbah Commission reiterated its commitment to continue working with relevant security agencies to rid the state of all forms of social vices.
