The beneficiaries, made up of 13 girls and seven boys, were drawn from two public schools in the state — Government Day Secondary School, Unguwar Danbaba, and Government Girls Secondary School, Tsunami.
Speaking during the presentation of the scholarship items, the Programme Coordinator, Aisha Abu, said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that brilliant but poor students are not forced out of school because their parents cannot afford basic learning materials.
According to her, the scholarship will cover the students throughout their senior secondary education, from Senior Secondary One, SS1, to Senior Secondary Three, SS3.
As part of the package, each beneficiary received complete school kits including school uniforms, shoes, school bags, textbooks, exercise books, writing materials and socks.
Abu explained that the gesture was not a one-off support, but a sustained intervention that will run for three years.
"The beneficiaries will continue to receive the package annually throughout the three years of their senior secondary education," she said.
She noted that the programme was specifically designed to reduce the financial pressure on low-income families and to check the rate of school dropouts, especially among girls in rural areas.
She added that the Zamfara intervention is part of BLPARW's wider education and empowerment drive targeted at underserved communities across Nigeria.
The organisation, according to her, has carried out similar educational support programmes in Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, where indigent students also benefited from scholarship packages and learning materials.
Abu said the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, particularly SDG 1 which seeks to end poverty, SDG 4 which promotes quality education for all, and SDG 5 which advocates for gender equality.
She called on well-meaning individuals, corporate organisations, and development partners to join hands with BLPARW to expand the scholarship scheme to reach more vulnerable children across its areas of operation.
"We are urging individuals, corporate bodies and development partners to support our efforts to extend educational opportunities to more indigent students," she appealed.
Meanwhile, the principals of the benefiting schools, the students and their parents have expressed appreciation to the organisation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.
They promised that the items provided would be properly utilized and that the students would be encouraged to take their studies seriously to justify the investment in their education.
