The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Zamfara State, Engr. Ibrahim Shehu Bakauye PhD, has extended condolences to the people of Zamfara State over the tragic killing of Malama Zainab Abdullahi, a teacher at Government Girls Secondary School, GGSS Gusau.
The incident has generated widespread grief and anger across the state, with residents describing it as another painful reminder of the growing insecurity affecting both communities and public institutions.
In a statement issued in Gusau, Engr. Shehu Bakauye said the killing has caused great distress among the people and called on authorities to act swiftly to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The PDP candidate sympathized with the family of the deceased, her colleagues at GGSS Gusau, and the entire people of Zamfara State. He described Malama Zainab as a dedicated teacher who devoted her life to teaching and nurturing children.
He called on security agencies and relevant government authorities to intensify investigations into the killing and ensure that justice is served without delay.
He also commended civil society organizations and community groups that have been advocating for accountability in the matter. According to him, their efforts are important in keeping pressure on government to act and in ensuring that the family of the late teacher does not suffer in silence.
"The demand for justice in this case must not be ignored. A teacher who gave her life to service deserves that the state stands with her family and ensures those behind this act face the law," he said.
Engr. Shehu Bakauye expressed deep shock over what he described as the Zamfara State Government’s indifference to the killing. He noted that Malama Zainab was a civil servant serving the state by educating children, and that her death occurred in the course of that service.
He said it was disappointing that three days after the incident, the state government had not issued any official statement to address the matter or to commiserate with the people.
"Today marks three days since this incident happened, yet the Zamfara State Government has not even issued a press statement to show concern over the matter, let alone offer condolences to the people," he stated.
The PDP candidate argued that the silence further shows that the welfare of the people is not a priority for the current administration. He added that a government that is truly concerned about its citizens would not wait up to 24 hours before expressing sympathy and taking steps to address such a tragedy.
"This further shows that the people are not a priority to them. If they were concerned about the condition the people are in, they would not have taken up to 24 hours without expressing sympathy," he said.
The killing has sparked concern among teachers, parents, and students across Zamfara. Education stakeholders say attacks and insecurity around schools continue to threaten learning and the safety of teachers who remain committed to service despite the risks.
Concluding his statement, Engr. Shehu Bakauye prayed to Allah to forgive the deceased and grant her paradise. He also prayed for strength and patience for the people of Zamfara as they mourn the loss.
"May Allah forgive her and make paradise her final abode. May He also grant the people of Zamfara State the fortitude to bear this loss," he said.
He urged residents to remain calm but to continue to demand accountability from those in leadership, stressing that silence in the face of injustice only emboldens perpetrators.
The incident has renewed calls for the state government to prioritize security, workers’ welfare, and timely communication with the public during moments of crisis.
