Abuja, Sept. 28 The Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership has urged INEC to comply immediately and fully with the Supreme Court's decision on the Electoral Act.
The group's President, Amb. Danbature, made the call in a statement in Abuja on Monday, following the apex court's recent ruling on the Act.
He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must remove from its official portal the names of all candidates of political parties affected by the judgment.
Danbature cited Section 287(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which requires all authorities and persons in Nigeria to enforce the decisions of the Supreme Court.
"INEC must take all necessary steps to ensure full compliance with the court's orders, without delay or selective implementation," he said.
The group also stressed that the commission should not implement the judgment selectively.
He said the Supreme Court, as the final court in the land, has the last word on legal disputes, and its decisions must be respected by all institutions of government, including electoral bodies.
According to him, prompt compliance by INEC would protect the credibility of the electoral process and strengthen public confidence in the commission's independence and impartiality.
The group therefore called on the commission to act without delay, warning that any failure to fully implement the judgment could undermine the rule of law and the integrity of the country's democratic system. (NAN)
