The Zamfara State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Malam Muhammad Lawan Ahmad, has cried out to the Zamfara State Government over the small size of the orientation camp in the state.
Ahmad said the camp can no longer contain the increasing number of Corps Members being posted to Zamfara State, and appealed for a bigger and permanent site.
He made the appeal on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch 'C' Stream I Corps Members held at the UBEC Training Centre in Gusau.
According to him, the UBEC Centre which is being used as a temporary camp is now overstretched.
"We also respectfully appeal to your administration to consider providing the NYSC Scheme with a larger and more suitable venue for hosting Orientation Course activities in the State. With the growing number of Corps Members being deployed to Zamfara, a bigger and more permanent orientation facility has become increasingly necessary," the Coordinator said.
Malam Ahmad explained that getting a larger camp inside Gusau will help solve the problem of accommodation and make orientation activities easier and more organized.
He however thanked the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal for its continued support to the NYSC in the state, especially on welfare packages for Corps Members serving in Zamfara.
He also thanked other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the orientation exercise.
In his remarks, Governor Dauda Lawal, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Kashimu Sani Kaura, welcomed the Corps Members to Zamfara State.
The Governor told them to see Zamfara as their second home and to be open-minded in their place of primary assignment.
He said NYSC remains a very important platform for promoting national unity and integration, and assured that his government will continue to support the scheme.
About 800 Corps Members took the oath of allegiance at the event. The oath was administered by the Chief Judge of Zamfara State, who was represented by Justice Bello Muhammad Nasir.
The swearing-in officially marked the beginning of the three-week orientation course for the Batch.
