The convention, held on Saturday, 2nd August 2026 at Abuja, at, witnessed massive turnout of delegates, campus journalists, stakeholders, and student leaders from polytechnics, monotechnics, and allied institutions across the 36 states and FCT.
The election was conducted under the supervision of the NAPS Independent Convention Planning Committee in line with the NAPS Constitution. After a peaceful, transparent and credible process, Comr. Lukman Lawal polled the highest votes to emerge as National Secretary General.
In his acceptance speech, Comr. Lukman Lawal expressed gratitude to the delegates for the overwhelming mandate and promised a leadership anchored on unity, accountability, and service.
"This victory is not for me alone. It is for every polytechnic student in Nigeria who believes in a better NAPS. As your Secretary General, I will ensure proper documentation, effective communication between NEC and chapters, and that the voice of polytechnic students is heard at all levels of government. We will fight for improved funding, better facilities, and full implementation of the HND/BSC dichotomy removal," Lawal said.
He also pledged to work in synergy with the National President, Zonal Coordinators, JCC Chairmen, and SUG Presidents to reposition NAPS for greater impact.
The Convention Planning Committee and the outgoing NEC were commended for laying a solid foundation. Special appreciation was given to security agencies, school managements, and stakeholders who ensured a peaceful convention.
The new NEC is expected to pilot the affairs of NAPS for the next tenure with focus on:
1. Welfare of Polytechnic Students - Scholarships, grants, and intervention on school fees
2. Academic Advocacy - Full implementation of policies favorable to polytechnic graduates
3. Unity and Mobilization - Strengthening NAPS structures in all zones and chapters
4. Engagement with Government ,NBTE, and relevant agencies on issues affecting technical education
NAPS remains the largest and most vibrant voice for polytechnic students in Nigeria. The association assures Nigerians of its readiness to partner with government and stakeholders to advance technical and vocational education in the country.
