According to security sources, the clash also led to the destruction of roughly 30 motorcycles belonging to his group. The incident occurred during an operation on Saturday.
Intelligence reports seen by Zagazola Makama indicate that the attack has dealt a serious setback to Aleiro’s gang in terms of manpower and movement. All the motorcycles deployed for the operation were said to have been destroyed, and those riding them were neutralized.
Security analysts note that motorcycles are the primary means of transport, communication, and quick raids for bandit groups across the North-West. Losing such a large number at once will significantly slow down the group’s ability to attack, resupply, and escape security forces in rough terrain.
As of Sunday afternoon around 3:51pm, sources said Aleiro was spotted riding alone on a motorcycle around Sakya Dutse, Higi, and Asaula axis. His movement is currently being tracked by operatives who are trying to determine his next hideout and the state of his remaining fighters.
The report also revealed that the bandit leader is worried about a planned illegal mining site at Gidan Buhari in Chadiya Ward, Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State. Aleiro is said to fear a possible attack on the site by local vigilantes, popularly known as Yansakai, operating out of Tsafe town.
This concern is believed to stem from the recent casualties in Katsina, which have left his network exposed and vulnerable.
Security officials say the development presents an opening to increase pressure on the weakened syndicate and stop any attempt to regroup. The loss of both personnel and bikes is expected to limit the gang’s mobility for weeks.
The incident comes as troops continue sustained operations under Operation FANSAN YANMA across Zamfara, Katsina, and other affected states.
Authorities have been urged to enhance joint surveillance and coordination, especially around Tsafe and other entry points where remnants of the group may try to reorganize.
