Some persons suspected to be security operatives have arrested the former Chairman of Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Hon. Umar Faru Bukkuyum.
The arrest reportedly took place shortly after he was removed from office. Details surrounding the reason for the arrest are yet to be officially confirmed by the Zamfara State Government or security agencies.
Confirming the development, Atiku Abubakar Ruwan ÆŠorowa, a close associate of the former chairman, accused the Zamfara State Government of being behind the arrest.
Speaking to journalists, Ruwan ÆŠorowa alleged that the state government ordered the arrest of Hon. Umar Faru Bukkuyum.
He further stated that the state government would be held responsible for anything that happens to the former council boss while in custody.
He said: "They will be held responsible for anything that happens to the former Local Government Chairman."
As at the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Zamfara State Government or the Nigeria Police Force on the arrest and the allegations raised.
Bukkuyum LGA has been one of the areas in Zamfara affected by insecurity and political tensions in recent months.
