The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has commiserated with the people of Bungudu and Tsafe Local Government Areas over the recent bandit attack that claimed lives and left several persons abducted.
The party, under the leadership of Hon. Zilfikar Auwal Tambaya, Mainan Tsafe, in a statement issued on behalf of the PDP leadership in the state, expressed deep sadness over the heinous incident which occurred earlier this week.
In the condolence message, the PDP extended its sympathy to the Emir of Bungudu, the Bungudu Emirate Council, the Tsafe Emirate, the people of Bungudu and Tsafe, the families of those affected, and the entire people of Zamfara State.
The party said it received the news of the attack with shock and sorrow, particularly over the killing of Alhaji Usman Aliyu and the abduction of many residents of the community whose exact number is yet to be ascertained.
According to the statement, the resurgence of banditry across Zamfara State is a clear indication that the people are going through a very difficult period and need a government that is present and responsive to their plight.
"The Zamfara State PDP received this heinous news with deep sadness. We condole with the Emirate of Bungudu and Tsafe, the Emir of Bungudu, the people of Bungudu and Tsafe, the families of those who lost their lives and those abducted, and the entire people of Zamfara State," the statement read.
The party called on the Zamfara State Government to rise to its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property, stressing that the government must not abandon its people at a time when they need it most.
The PDP also urged the Governor to return home and face the security challenges confronting the state head-on, rather than being absent while citizens are being killed and kidnapped on a daily basis.
"The Zamfara State Government should stand up and shoulder the responsibility of the people. The Governor should return to face this problem because the people are in a very difficult situation," the party said.
The opposition party in the state further condemned the series of bandit attacks across different parts of Zamfara in recent weeks, noting that the situation has gone from bad to worse, with communities now living in constant fear.
It prayed for lasting peace in Zamfara State and the entire country, asking Almighty Allah to forgive those who lost their lives in the attack and to grant safe release to those who were abducted.
"We condemn these heinous attacks across Zamfara State. We pray that Allah brings us lasting peace, may Allah forgive those who lost their lives and those who were kidnapped, may Allah grant them a way out," the statement added.
The PDP reaffirmed its solidarity with all victims of banditry in the state and assured that it will continue to speak out against any form of insecurity and injustice affecting the people of Zamfara.
