The Zamfara State Internal Revenue Service, ZIRS, has trained registrars and accountants of Shari’ah Courts across the state on digital revenue collection and management.
The two-day capacity building workshop, organized in collaboration with Primeguage Solutions Limited, is part of ongoing reforms to strengthen transparency, accountability and efficiency in the state's revenue administration.
Declaring the training open, the Grand Khadi of Zamfara State, Khadi Dahiru Muhammad, charged participants to uphold honesty and integrity in handling public funds collected through court registries, noting that revenue generated from the courts is part of public trust.
On her part, the Executive Chairman of ZIRS, Hajiya Rakiya Ahmed Dodo, said the training was designed to modernise revenue collection processes and block leakages in the system.
According to her, the agency is moving away from manual collection to a fully digital platform to ensure that all revenues accruing to the state are properly captured and remitted.
Dodo explained that the initiative is in line with the revenue drive of Governor Dauda Lawal's administration, which has placed strong emphasis on boosting Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, despite the huge monthly federal allocations accruing to the state.
Since assuming office, Governor Lawal has prioritized revenue collection as a key pillar of his administration's economic reform agenda, with a focus on expanding the tax net, digitizing payment channels, and ensuring fiscal discipline across Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs.
The governor has repeatedly maintained that improved IGR is critical to funding development projects and reducing over-dependence on federal allocation, which informed his support for the full automation of revenue collection in the state, including court-generated revenues, markets, and other MDAs.
Stakeholders at the training said the inclusion of Shari’ah Court staff is strategic, as court fees, fines and other charges constitute a significant revenue stream that was previously under-reported due to manual processes.
The training is expected to improve compliance, enhance real-time tracking of collections, and align with Governor Lawal’s vision of a transparent, accountable and digitally-driven public service in Zamfara State.
