The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, PhD, recently inaugurated a 22-member Kano North APC Campaign Committee, chaired by Engr. Dr. Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia Jama'are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), Kano. The members of the committee were drawn from all the Local Government Areas of Kano North.
DSP Barau I. Jibrin charged the committee to work diligently towards securing victory for all APC candidates, from the presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to the governorship candidate, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly.
The reason and wisdom behind the choice of Bichi to lead the APC Kano North Campaign Committee is his vast experience in politics, governance, and administration. His previous positions include serving as Secretary to the Kano State Government, State Party Chairman, and Director-General of the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council in Kano State.
During the 2023 presidential election, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, as Director-General of the Kano APC Campaign Council, played a significant role in the party's campaign, which contributed to APC's performance in the state. Kano recorded one of the highest numbers of votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu among the states, after Lagos.
DSP Barau, a seasoned politician whose primary concern is the success of the APC in the 2027 elections from top to bottom, carefully considered the political experience and capacity required to lead the campaign and selected Engr. Bichi, alongside other experienced stakeholders, to help secure victory for the party.
If there is anything like a career politician, DSP Barau I. Jibrin, PhD, certainly fits that description. He has participated in the democratic process for many years and was involved in political activities during the period leading to the return of democracy in Nigeria.
Barau began his political journey by contesting for a councillorship seat. He subsequently contested for chairmanship, the State House of Assembly, and the House of Representatives in 1999, following the return to democratic rule.
One interesting historical account of his early political involvement was during the visit of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola to Kano to campaign as the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). According to accounts of that period, Abiola toured parts of Kano on top of Barau I. Jibrin's Mercedes-Benz, which Barau himself drove.
Senator Barau I. Jibrin has devoted a significant part of his political career to public service, democracy, and governance. He is a former Commissioner and currently serves as a Senator representing Kano North in the National Assembly. His supporters in Kano often commend him for his representation and describe him as a Senator whose political influence extends beyond his constituency.
Rabiu Suleiman Bichi also represents hard work, dedication, and sacrifice towards initiatives that promote the development of Kano State. He understands the importance of Barau's continued representation in the Senate, particularly in relation to accelerating development and attracting opportunities to Kano State.
As Director-General of the Tinubu-Shettima Campaign Council during the 2023 elections, Bichi played a prominent role in the APC's campaign efforts in Kano State. Members of the APC from Kano North who have been elected or appointed to various positions have also continued to represent their constituencies and the state.
With unity and the support of all APC stakeholders in Kano North, Rabiu Suleiman Bichi and members of his committee are expected to work towards securing victory for DSP Barau I. Jibrin, as well as APC candidates for the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.
The campaign will also seek to secure strong support in Kano North for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in their respective bids for continuity in office. The ultimate objective, as articulated by the supporters and stakeholders involved, is to promote continuity of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Kano First agenda.
