NAF Donates Computer Lab To Zamfara School To Boost Digital Learning

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has commissioned a fully equipped computer laboratory at the Government Science Secondary School, Shinkafi, in Zamfara State as part of efforts to promote digital education and strengthen relationship with host communities.

The project was commissioned on Thursday under the NAF’s Special Intervention Projects, aimed at supporting communities through non-kinetic approach to security.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, said the donation goes beyond provision of computers, but is a strategic investment in the future of young people in the state.

Air Marshal Aneke, who was represented by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Operation Fansan Yamma, Air Vice Marshal U.K. Abdullahi, said the initiative was executed in honour of an illustrious son of Zamfara State, Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Abdullahi Shinkafi, who has distinguished himself in service to the nation.

According to him, the NAF is committed to complementing the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by bridging the digital divide in rural schools and giving students access to modern learning tools that will make them competitive in the digital age.

He explained that strong civil-military relations remain critical to national security and that winning the hearts and minds of the people through such interventions is as important as air operations in the fight against insecurity.

He therefore urged the people of Shinkafi, traditional leaders and the school management to protect the facility and ensure it is properly maintained for the benefit of present and future students.

He also called on residents to continue to support security agencies with credible and timely information to help end banditry and other criminal activities in the state.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Warrah Idris, said military operations alone cannot bring lasting peace.

According to him, sustainable peace must be anchored on investment in education, technology and youth empowerment.

He noted that when young people are equipped with relevant digital skills and given hope, they become more resilient and less vulnerable to recruitment by criminals and terrorist groups.

Also speaking, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mani Mummuni, who represented Governor Dauda Lawal, commended the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force for the gesture.

He said the intervention aligns perfectly with the state government’s agenda to upgrade public schools, especially those in rural areas, with modern facilities that will improve learning outcomes.

The deputy governor praised AVM Shinkafi for attracting the project to his community and described him as a worthy ambassador of the state whose service to the nation has brought pride to Zamfara.

He charged the students to take advantage of the facility to develop themselves and become digitally literate.

The ceremony was attended by the Emir of Shinkafi, Alhaji Muhammadu Mkwashe Isah, members of the State Executive Council, senior military officers, teachers and students of the school.
