President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the brutal killing of prominent Islamic preacher, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, in Katsina State.
The duo were killed in a drive-by shooting incident on Monday evening in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of the state.
Gunmen reportedly opened fire on them while they were on the road, killing them on the spot and throwing the community into mourning.
President Tinubu, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said he was deeply saddened by the news of the killing, describing the act as heinous, barbaric and an assault on the values of peace and sanctity of human life.
The President said the murder of a revered religious leader who dedicated his life to preaching peace and guiding people is not only painful but also unacceptable in any sane society.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the immediate families of the deceased, their followers, the Dutsin-Ma community, as well as the government and people of Katsina State over the tragic loss.
President Tinubu also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and for comfort and strength for all those who mourn their death.
Meanwhile, the President has directed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to act swiftly on the matter.
He ordered them to intensify efforts already underway by the Katsina State Police Command and ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are tracked down, apprehended and brought to justice without delay.
President Tinubu assured that his administration remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians, regardless of faith or location, and will not tolerate any act of violence that threatens the peace of the country.
