Residents of Kagara community in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State were thrown into panic on Friday night after armed bandits invaded the area, injuring one person and abducting at least 12 others.
The attack, which occurred late in the night, is the latest in a series of assaults on rural communities in Zamfara State, where banditry has continued to claim lives and displace residents despite ongoing security operations.
According to a post shared by security analyst Bakatsine on his X handle on Saturday, the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically to scare residents before whisking away their victims.
"Last night, bandits attacked Kagara community in Talata Mafara LGA, Zamfara State, injuring one person and abducting at least 12 residents," Bakatsine wrote.
A local source told our correspondent that the bandits arrived on motorcycles in large numbers and operated for several minutes without any resistance. One resident who sustained gunshot injuries during the invasion is currently receiving treatment, while the whereabouts of the abducted persons remain unknown.
Kagara, like many other communities in Talata Mafara, has suffered repeated attacks in recent months, forcing many families to abandon their homes and farmlands.
Residents have continued to lament the deteriorating security situation in the area, calling on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Zamfara State Police Command nor the state government has issued an official statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, the attack has once again raised questions about the safety of rural communities in the North West.
Another night of terror for residents who deserve to live in peace. How many more people must be injured or abducted before lasting action is taken to protect these communities?
