Zamfara ADC Crisis: Mahdi Aliyu Alleges Forgery, Backdated Letters To INEC

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Zamfara State, Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed, has raised an alarm over an alleged plot to remove his name from the race using doctored documents.

In a press statement he personally signed and issued on Monday, Mahdi alleged that some individuals within the party are working to substitute his name with that of a non-member who did not participate in the party's primary election.

He recalled that he contested and won the ADC gubernatorial primary election in Zamfara State held on 22nd May 2026.

"Please recall that I participated in the ADC gubernatorial primary election in Zamfara State on 22nd May 2026 and won the primary election. Thereafter I was given the INEC Form EC9 which I filled and returned to the party for onward submission," he said.

Mahdi, however, expressed shock that instead of submitting his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the party allegedly submitted the name of one Bilyaminu Shinkafi, who according to him, was neither a member of the ADC nor a participant in the primary election.

Dissatisfied with the development, he said he approached the court to seek redress.

According to him, despite serving court papers on the party and Shinkafi for over two months, they have failed to file any defence.

He further alleged that some persons within the party, led by a former Attorney-General of a state, are now doctoring documents to be filed as defence in court.

"We are aware that the letters have been drafted, backdated and sent to INEC stating that Mr Shinkafi participated in the primary election, despite that the report of the primary election obtained from INEC and already filed in court prior to the non-existent and backdated letter states otherwise," he alleged.

Mahdi warned that if fake documents are filed in court, he would petition relevant security agencies, INEC and the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee for investigation, prosecution and disciplinary action against those involved.

"We know that the whole world is watching and know those trying to rig the system in this pre-election matter," he concluded.
