Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly who dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, have made a U-turn and reaffirmed their loyalty to the party after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The lawmakers were led to the Presidential Villa on Sunday night by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, who is a former governor of the state. They were accompanied by a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji.
The Spectacles recalls that the lawmakers had resigned from the APC in early October.
However, following their closed-door meeting with President Tinubu, the legislators resolved to remain in the ruling party and work for the success of the party's candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The eight lawmakers are Aliyu Ango Kagara (Talata Mafara South), Ibrahim Tukur Bakura (Bakura), Faruk Musa Dosara (Maradun I), Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), Muktaru Nasiru Kaura (Kaura North), Nasiru Abdullahi (Maru North), Bashar Bello (Bungudu West) and Bashar Aliyu (Gummi I).
Sources at the meeting disclosed that Bello Matawalle has pledged to integrate the lawmakers into the Tinubu Again Movement, a campaign structure set up to support the President's re-election bid and other APC candidates.
The development is coming at a time the APC is working to consolidate its strength in Zamfara State ahead of 2027, following the recent defection of Governor Dauda Lawal from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling party and his public reconciliation with Matawalle.
