A prominent political figure in Zamfara State, Hon. Mansur Yusuf Moriki, has announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He made the declaration during a press briefing with journalists on Monday, citing what he described as "strong and clear reasons" rooted in injustice and disregard for the wishes of the people of Zamfara North.
Hon. Moriki said he has been loyal to the party since its days as the All Peoples Party, APP, through the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, and now the APC.
“I have been in this party since it was APP, then ANPP, and now APC. I have never belonged to any other political party,” he stated.
According to him, the decision to leave was not taken lightly, but was forced by the party’s handling of the Zamfara North Senatorial ticket.
Moriki condemned the APC for refusing to give the ticket to Dr. Hanafi Musa Moriki, whom he said is the preferred choice of the people of Zamfara North.
He described Dr. Hanafi as a respected former federal civil servant who rose from the lowest rank to the position of Permanent Secretary.
“Throughout his years of service, he was never indicted for corruption or any form of misconduct. He is a man of integrity,” Moriki said.
He added that the people trust Dr. Hanafi because he has consistently supported communities in the area and has always listened to their complaints, even before seeking elective office.
“It was the people who pressured him to contest. He did not even have the intention initially, but because of their persistent demand, he accepted,” he explained.
Hon. Moriki expressed confidence that Dr. Hanafi will win the Zamfara North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the PDP.
“I can assure you that 80 percent of APC members in Zamfara North, along with members of other parties, will vote for Dr. Hanafi Musa Moriki as Senator in 2027,” he said.
“I am telling all the people that I have left the APC and joined the PDP. And by the grace of God, Dr. Hanafi Musa will win the senatorial election because the people of Zamfara North are not slaves. They deserve to choose who represents them.”
