The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Zamfara State has flagged off the collection of Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commission said registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs can now do so at its offices across the 14 local government areas of the state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Dr. Mahmuda Isah, disclosed this on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting on preparations for the 2027 general elections and PVC collection in Gusau.
Dr. Isah said the ward-level collection exercise, which had been ongoing across the state, ended on October 15, 2026. He therefore urged registered voters who missed the ward-level collection to visit INEC Local Government offices to collect their cards.
He emphasized that PVC collection is completely free of charge and must be done in person, warning against payment, collection by proxy, or any other act capable of undermining the credibility of the process.
Giving an update on voter registration in the state, the REC disclosed that Zamfara had a total of 1,952,060 registered voters as of the 2023 general elections, while the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise has recorded an additional 313,115 new registrations as of August 2026.
According to him, Zamfara State has 14 Local Government Areas, 147 Registration Areas, 3,529 polling units, 3 senatorial districts, 7 federal constituencies and 24 state constituencies, with an average of 553 voters per polling unit.
Dr. Isah also noted that the Commission is working closely with security agencies to address security challenges in some communities, stressing that the safety of voters, election personnel, materials and facilities remains a top priority for INEC.
He appealed to political parties and their supporters to conduct their activities peacefully and in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC guidelines for the elections.
The REC further urged traditional and religious leaders to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence among their subjects, and called on the media and civil society organizations to always verify election-related information through official channels to curb the spread of misinformation and fake news.
He reminded stakeholders that the 2027 general elections have been scheduled to hold on January 16, 2027 for presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.
Dr. Isah concluded that credible elections require the collective commitment of all stakeholders, adding that INEC will continue to discharge its mandate with independence, impartiality and transparency to ensure free, fair and credible elections in Zamfara State and the country at large.
