Bandits Storm Kauran Namoda, Kill Seven, Abduct Scores

Tragedy struck in Kauran Namoda town of Zamfara State on Friday night as armed bandits invaded the community, killing at least seven residents and whisking away several others to an unknown destination.

The attackers were said to have stormed the town under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee for safety. By the time the dust settled, seven persons were confirmed dead, while an unspecified number of residents were abducted.

The incident was disclosed on Saturday by Bakatsine, a conflict reporter who tracks insecurity in the North-West, in a post on his X handle. A photograph attached to the post showed residents observing funeral prayers for the victims, depicting the grim reality of the attack.

Family members of the deceased have been thrown into mourning, while relatives of the abducted victims are living in fear and uncertainty over the fate of their loved ones.

"We are still searching for the exact people that were abducted," a resident of the area said, adding that the community was in disarray following the night invasion.

The latest attack has once again exposed the fragile security situation in Zamfara State, where bandits have continued to unleash terror on rural and semi-urban communities despite repeated assurances by government and security agencies.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Zamfara State Police Command, and it was not clear whether security operatives have commenced rescue operations for the abducted persons.

Residents are now calling on the state government and security agencies to urgently deploy more personnel to the area and to intensify efforts to secure the release of those abducted.

Kauran Namoda Local Government Area has in recent months become one of the hotspots of banditry in Zamfara, with repeated attacks leading to loss of lives, displacement of residents and disruption of farming activities.
