The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic landmine explosion that occurred in Gwashi community, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, which left several people injured.
In a condolence message signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Kabirudeen Mohammed, the party said it received the news “with heavy hearts and profound sadness.”
The statement was issued on behalf of the PDP leadership in Zamfara State, the party’s governorship candidate, His Excellency Engr. Ibrahim Shehu Bakauye, as well as state and local government executives under the leadership of Hon. Zilfikar Auwal Tambaya (Maina Tsafe).
According to the statement, the incident happened when residents of Gwashi were traveling and their vehicle ran over an explosive device planted along the road. The explosion caused panic in the community and left a number of people with various degrees of injuries.
The PDP said it stands in solidarity with the people of Gwashi, the entire Bukkuyum Local Government, and the Bukkuyum Emirate at this difficult time.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Gwashi, and the traditional institution of Bukkuyum over this unfortunate tragedy,” the party said. “We pray to Almighty Allah to grant quick and complete healing to those who sustained injuries, and to grant the community lasting peace and security.”
The party described the incident as another painful reminder of the security challenges facing communities in rural Zamfara, particularly areas that have been affected by banditry and the planting of explosives on major and minor roads.
The PDP also called on relevant security agencies to intensify surveillance, demining operations, and intelligence gathering along vulnerable routes in Bukkuyum and other LGAs to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The party urged residents to remain calm and to continue cooperating with security operatives by providing useful information that can help in identifying those behind the planting of explosives and other criminal activities.
