The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Zamfara State has dismissed reports of defection from the party in Bungudu West, Bungudu Local Government Area, to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Kabirudeen Mohammed, the party said it “observed with dismay” that some unidentified persons paraded themselves as PDP members and claimed to have defected to the NDC, a report now trending on social media.
“The party in the state has no idea of those people. They are not card-carrying members of the PDP and have no political affiliation with us,” the statement said.
The PDP described the claim as “false, baseless, and fabricated with no evidence to support it.” The viral report alleged that key NDC figures in Bungudu West Ward received some PDP polling unit chairmen and their supporters who supposedly dumped the PDP for the NDC.
According to the statement: “Those named in the report are still active members of the PDP. They have not defected anywhere. Bungudu remains a PDP stronghold, and the people have embraced the party wholeheartedly. No other party enjoys the level of acceptance that the PDP has here.”
The party warned the public to disregard the report, saying it was designed by imposters “to bring commotion, confusion and chaos into the party in the state.”
The statement further reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to “developmental, social and security reforms that will have meaningful impact on the people of the state.”
It also called on party supporters to remain focused and continue mobilizing for change and development in their communities.
The PDP added that in recent times it has witnessed a massive influx of supporters across the 14 local government areas, with many former members returning to the party.
