A lawyer representing Khadija Diab has come out to say her client has not been in Nigeria for months.
According to the lawyer, Khadija has been in Morocco since April 2026. That directly contradicts claims that she has been staying with the Islamic scholar.
Bilkisu Abdulrasheed Chedi made the clarification on Tuesday.
Chedi is the Executive Director of Women Aware of Rights Initiative, WARI. That’s the non-profit legal group that has been handling Khadija’s case.
She spoke in a video shared on the verified Facebook page of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi. The video was released amid renewed questions about Khadija’s whereabouts.
“All the allegations that she has been with Sheikh Gumi are false and unfounded,” Chedi said.
“Because it is not possible for a person to be in two different countries at the same time.”
Chedi explained that Khadija first approached WARI in October 2025.
At the time, she alleged domestic abuse, poor maintenance, and other marital problems with her Nigerian husband, Nasiru Idris.
The organization said it advised her to go for medical examinations. The results, according to Chedi, showed she had contracted sexually transmitted infections.
Things escalated from there. Khadija told the organization she no longer wanted to continue the marriage. She cited both emotional and physical abuse.
A case was then filed at the Area Sharia Court on Daura Road, Kaduna. But according to Chedi, the case kept running into delays. There were legal challenges and other court-related issues that slowed things down.
As the stress piled up, Khadija became emotionally distressed. She told WARI she wanted to go back home to Morocco.
That’s where another problem came up.
Chedi alleged that Khadija’s international passport was with her husband. Without it, she couldn’t travel.
So WARI stepped in. The organization said it helped Khadija secure an emergency travel document from Moroccan authorities.
With that document, she was able to leave Nigeria.
Chedi said Moroccan immigration officials confirmed Khadija’s arrival in April 2026.
The Moroccan Embassy in Nigeria also informed WARI that she had safely returned to her family in Morocco.
“She has spent about six months in Morocco and is currently staying with her family,” the lawyer stated.
Before leaving, Chedi said Khadija gave her permission to continue with the legal proceedings in Nigeria on her behalf.
That’s why, even though Khadija is out of the country, the case is still moving.
Chedi added that the first case at the Daura Road Sharia Court was discontinued on June 10, 2026.
A new case seeking the dissolution of the marriage was filed in July 2026.
This clarification comes after Nasiru Idris accused Sheikh Gumi of “abducting” his wife and keeping her for 11 months.
Gumi had earlier denied the claim. He said Khadija ran to his house for refuge with his own wife, who is also Moroccan, to escape alleged domestic violence.
With this new statement from WARI, the lawyer is saying both sides got it wrong on the timeline. Khadija, she insists, has not been in Nigeria since April.
The lawyer’s video was shared directly on Gumi’s page, suggesting the cleric also wants the public to know he is no longer linked to Khadija’s current location.
The divorce case is still pending before the Sharia Court in Kaduna. WARI says it will continue to represent Khadija until the matter is resolved.
